Newly appointed board adds expertise, vision and strategic merit to the firm’s strategy of breakthrough innovations for energy intensive industries
VANCOUVER, BC – Chrysalix Energy Venture Capital, one of the longest-standing and most active clean energy venture capital firms, has appointed a new advisory board that includes three outstanding industry leaders and visionaries: Paul de Martini, former Chief Technology Officer with Cisco Systems; Mark Dudzinski, former Chief Marketing Officer at GE Energy; and John Thompson, President of the Canada Mining Innovation Council and former Vice President of Technology and Development at Teck Resources.
The Chrysalix EVC advisory board will support the firm’s investment strategy, which is focused on cultivating sustainable innovations that address the economic, energy and environmental challenges facing some of the world’s largest industries, including oil and gas, electric power and mining. With these industries now facing major transition, sustainable innovation is moving up the corporate agenda as incumbents recognize the need to invest aggressively to avoid being blindsided by shifting energy policies and new technologies.
“The formation of this new advisory board is a natural progression for Chrysalix EVC as we continue to add unparalleled energy industry expertise to the firm,” said Wal van Lierop, President and CEO, Chrysalix EVC. “Each appointed advisor is not only a highly accomplished and well respected leader in their field, but also a visionary with a unique understanding of the innovations that are needed to overcome the challenges faced by energy producing industries, and how to implement and scale them.”
Paul de Martini has extensive knowledge of energy services and grid modernization, working previously as a leading strategist for Cisco Systems Connected Energy Networks where he assisted the company with its launch into the smart grid market. Prior to Cisco, Paul led the development and deployment of major smart grid projects as Vice President of Advanced Technology for Southern California Edison (SCE). Paul has also held a variety of executive positions with Sempra Energy, PG&E Corporation, and Engage Energy.
Mark Dudzinski has deep roots in the energy industry with an expansive career working for such companies as GE Energy and ABB in executive positions. At General Electric, Mark was responsible for leading strategy and marketing for the $45 billion Energy business including developments in thermal and renewable power generation, oil and gas exploration, electric transmission and distribution, and industrial controls. Mark currently runs a non-profit organization Light the World Inc., dedicated to bringing cost effective electricity to the 1.2 billion people who live without lighting.
As President of the Canada Mining Innovation Council and former Vice President of Technology and Development at Teck Resources, John Thompson has a unique understanding of the significant pain points facing the mining industry and the tremendous opportunity for step change innovation to solve them. He is also the Wold Professor in Environmental Balance of Human Sustainability at Cornell University, Principal in PetraScience Consulting, and former Chief Geoscientist at Teck Resources.
Each member of the Chrysalix EVC advisory board provides deep expertise and strategic advice to the firm and its portfolio companies, including opportunity recognition and valuable introductions to their networks, potentially leading to new customers, partners, acquirer candidates and access to exceptional talent. Two additional members are expected to join the advisory board within the next quarter
